Noah Broussard of Catholic High School, the Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs Law Firm/Daily Iberian Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3.

Fans of Teche Area high school football teams made one race a runaway and decided the other by the slimmest of margins in online polling for Daily Iberian Player of the Week honors sponsored by the law firm of Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs.

Highland Baptist Christian School quarterback Myles Liggans won his second Offensive Player of the Week honors in a landslide, beating his next closest competitor in the online poll at www.iberianet.com/sports by more than 45 percentage points after a record-setting performance in the Bears’ 47-39 District 7-A win over Hanson Memorial School.

The defensive honors were another matter as Catholic High School’s Noah Broussard edged Matthew Napier of Highland Baptist by a single vote, amounting to approximately a tenth of a percentage point.

Fans nominate players from Teche Area schools following each week’s games and then vote for their favorites from among those listed in the poll by the sports staff of The Daily Iberian. Nominations are made beginning each Friday by posting a comment to the story at www.iberianet.com/sports asking for nominations. Nominations conclude on Monday and voting begins Monday afternoon at www.iberianet.com, ending on Thursday afternoon. Results are published each Friday in the newspaper and its online site.

The top vote-getter on offense and the top vote-getter on defense are named Players of the Week and receive a special T-shirt and certificate for their efforts.
