Spooktacular serving up some of Louisiana’s best

CADE — The annual ESA Spooktacular volleyball tournament tips off at 4:30 p.m. today with pool play continuing through Friday before gold, silver and bronze rounds get underway Saturday.

Teche Area teams joining host Episcopal School of Acadiana for the tournament include Highland Baptist Christian School, Catholic High School and St. Martinville Senior High School.

The tournament also draws some of the top teams from around South Louisiana, with eight pools of three teams each competing. The first-place team in each pool advances to the gold bracket, the second place team to the silver bracket and the third-place team to the bronze bracket.

Thursday’s pool play includes pools E, F, G and H.

Pool E games are Ascension Episcopal against Comeaux at 4:30 p.m., Comeaux against Rayne at 5:30 and AES against Rayne at 6:30 p.m.

Pool F games are Assumption vs. Acadiana at 4:30 p.m., Acadiana vs. Highland Baptist at 5:30 and Assumption against Highland at 6:30.

In Pool G, Barbe plays ESA at 4:30 p.m., ESA plays St. Martinville at 5:30 and Barbe plays St. Martinville at 6:30.

In Pool H, St. Thomas More plays Lafayette Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m., followed by LCA against Iota at 5:30 and STM against Iota at 6:30.

Friday pool play features pools A, B, C and D.

In Pool A, Teurlings Catholic plays St. Amant at 4:30 p.m. with St. Amant playing St. Louis at 5:30 and TCHS plays St. Louis at 6:30.

In Pool B, St. Joseph’s plays De La Salle at 4:30 p.m., De La Salle plays Sam Houston at 5:30 and St. Joseph’s plays Sam Houston at 6:30.

In Pool C, Notre Dame plays E.D. White at 4:30 p.m., E.D. White plays Sacred Heart at 5:30 and Notre Dame plays Sacred Heart at 6:30.

In Pool D, Archbishop Hannan plays Northside at 4:30 p.m., Northside plays Catholic high at 5:30 p.m. and Hannan plays Catholic High at 6:30.

Bronze teams (third-place finishers in each pool) play Saturday in round two at 8 and 11 a.m.

The Silver teams (second-place in each pool) play at 9 and 10 a.m., with further games at noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. with the first- and second-place teams in the bracket facing off at 4:15 p.m.

In the Gold bracket, first-place teams from each pool meet at 9 and 10 a.m., with additional games at noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. 

The championship featuring the top two teams in the Gold bracket is at 4:15 p.m.

ESA 3, LCA 1

LAFAYETTE — Nanine Cowan had 14 kills and Britt Falterman had 18 assists as ESA beat Lafayette Christian 25-13, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20 in a District 2, Division V volleyball match Tuesday.

Cowan also had eight digs and Falterman had five aces, a kill, three digs and two blocks.

Also for ESA, Peyton Stokley had 16 assists and five aces; Mary Catherine Louis had eight kills, a dig and a block; Hailie Williams had nine kills, an ace and a block; Kailie Williams had eight kills; Victoria Kinsland had 14 digs and an assist; Camille Daigle had seven digs and an ace; and Sam Jindia had three digs and an assist.

St. Martinville 3, North Vermilion 1

ST. MARTINVILLE — Tori Louis and Markell Potier had six kills each to help St. Martinville beat North Vermilion 25-21, 25-13, 16-25, 25-16 in a District 4, Division III match on Tuesday.

Louis also had two digs and Potier had an ace, four blocks and two digs.

Jordan Landry had four kills and two digs for the Lady Tigers. Tiffany Simon had four kills, an ace, eight digs and six assists; Sydnie Allen had an ace, seven digs and five assists; Kalyn Cormier had a kill, two aces, seven digs and 11 assists; Krislyn Latiolias had an ace and 11 digs; and Tyler Fontenette had a kill and four digs; I’nyah Kately had a kill and 18 digs.
