- New Iberia Fire Department officials report a woman died in a fire in this mobile home.
The New Iberia Fire Department, with the help of the Louisiana Fire Marshal, is investigating a mobile home fire Wednesday night on Anderson Street that left one woman dead.
New Iberia Fire Chief Gordon Copell said the fire was reported at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday night regarding a fire at 404 Anderson St. The fire was behind a residence on the property in a separate mobile home.
New Iberia firefighters responded to the fire alarm within four-and-a-half minutes, according to Copell, and extinguished the flames within minutes.
Copell said the investigation has been handed over to the Louisiana Fire Marshal. Deputy Chief Brant Thompson couldn’t be reached by deadline Thursday.
The identity of the victim has been identified as 77-year-old Martha Davis aka Martha Arceneaux of New Iberia. Copell also said the woman was the only person in the mobile home at the time of the blaze.
