S.M. shooting suspect captured

ST. MARTINVILLE — A second suspect in an Oct. 11 shooting in St. Martinville has been arrested.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Western Louisiana Violent Offender Task Force-Lafayette Division in an effort to locate Andrew Smith, 19, in connection to the shooting on Main Highway. According to the SMPSO, Smith fled the area following the shooting.
On Thursday, the California Division of the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force-Central CA. apprehended Smith in Venice Beach, California. According to the SMPSO, Smith will be extradited at a later date and will be booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
An SMPSO spokesman said the Sheriff’s Office thank the U.S. Marshals Western Louisiana Violent Offenders Task Force-Lafayette Division and the California Division of the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force-Central CA. for their assistance in capturing Smith.
The investigation is ongoing.
