Early voting for Nov. 18 election begins Saturday

Early voting in the Teche Area starts Friday with two local ballot items and a statewide race.

On the ballot for Iberia Parish is a 5-mill proposition for the Hurricane, Levee and Conservation District. The 30-year perpetual tax will be used to fund and construct an Iberia Parish levee system.

Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes also will be voting on a statewide runoff election for Louisiana treasurer. The race is between Republican candidate John Schroder and Democratic candidate Derrick Edwards.

Some St. Mary Parish residents will have an additional ballot item. Franklin’s next city marshal will be elected Nov. 18, with a race between Democrat Rogers Washington Sr. and Independent candidate Carla Weidenboerner.

Early voting starts Friday and ends Nov. 11. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Registrar of Voters offices will be closed Sunday and Nov. 10 for Veterans Day.
