Panthers finish off 9-1 season with win over FSH

FRANKLIN — Jadan Stokes had four touchdowns and Zoe Cormier added three more as Catholic High jumped out to a 28-0 first quarter lead and cruised past Franklin 70-0 in District 7-2A Friday.

Stokes scored on runs on eight 29, six and one yards in the first half and Cormier scored on runs of 21 yards in the first half and 50 and two yards in the third quarter as the Panthers finished the regular season with a 9-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 record in district.
Ben Landry added a touchdown run on eight yards, Tra’Kalyn Reno scored on a 16 yard run and Peter LeBlanc scored on a 67 yard touchdown pass for CHS, which held Franklin to 98 total yards of offense.
Franklin finished the regular season 1-8 overall and 1-5 in district.
The Hornets are not expected to make the Class 2A playoffs this year.
Catholic High is expected to be the No. 3 seed in the Division III playoffs when the brackets are released today.

Lafay. Christian 34, Jeanerette 26
JEANERETTE — Logan Gabriel rushed for 256 yards and four touchdowns as Lafayette Christian rallied from a 26-20 fourth quarter deficit to beat Jeanerette 34-26 Friday in a non-district game and the regular season finale for both teams.
Gabriel scored on runs on 56, three, six and 12 yards, the last two in the fourth quarter, as the Knights scored twice in the last six minutes of the final quarter for the win to improve to 9-1 overall.
Jeanerette fell to 4-6 overall despite a punt return for a score from Deandrick Keal, and two kickoff returns for touchdowns from Derius Hawkins and Elton Alexander, Jr.
The Tigers are expected to be around the 26th seed and on the road in the first round when the Class 2A playoffs are announced later today.
Hanson 48,
Centerville 14
FRANKLIN — The Hanson Tigers scored 27 points in the first half to take control and beat Centerville 48-14 Friday in the District 7-A and regular season finale for both teams.
Hanson (3-7, 2-4 district) added another score in the third quarter to take a commanding 34-0 lead before Centerville broke the scoreless streak with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Individual statistics for the Tigers were not provided to The Daily Iberian.
Matthew LeBourgeois led Centerville (5-5, 1-5) with 95 yards and two touchdowns rushing.
With the win, it is expected that Hanson will finish as the 15th seed in Division and be on the road in the first round of the playoffs.
Centerville, which was playing for a chance to host a first round playoff game, is expected to finish 19th in the Class A power rankings and will be on the road in the first round.
Ascension Epis. 20, West St. Mary 14, OT
YOUNGSVILLE — Leo Franques nine-yard run in the first overtime was the difference as Ascension Episcopal rallied from a 14-7 fouth quarter deficit to beat West St. mary 20-14 in the regular season and District 7-2A finale for both teams Friday.
The Wolfpack (4-6, 4-2) led by seven points after a 45 yard touchdown pass from Taylun Druilhet to Daylon Richards and a Kyjuan Biggles 37 yard fumble return in the second quarter.
But the Blue Gators (8-2, 5-1) were able to block a punt in the fourth quarter to set up the tying score and Franques run in OT proved to be the winner.
Even with the loss, the Wolfpack are expected to the 20th seed in the Class 2A playoffs when the brackets are released later today and will be on the road in the first round.
Gueydan 26,
Highland Baptist 17
GUEYDAN — The Highland Baptist Bears dropped a 26-17 decision to Gueydan in the District 7-A and regular season finale for both teams Friday.
Individual statisitics from the game were not provided to The Daily Iberian.
It is expected that Highland (3-7 overall, 1-5 district) will finish 20th in the Division IV power rankings. Only the top 16 teams in Division IV make the playoffs.
Erath 15, Abbeville 14
ERATH — Mason Granger rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown as Erath avoided an 0-10 season with a 15-14 District 8-3A win over Abbeville Friday in the final regular season game for both teams.
Granger’s five yard run in the first quarter gave the Bobcats a 7-0 lead, which would increased to 9-0 a few minutes later on an Abbeville safety when the snap sailed over the punter’s head and into the end zone.
Abbeville had a touchdown in the second quarter and another in the third to take a 14-9 lead but Erath rallied in the final period on a touchdown pass from Cameron Landry to Matt Domingues.
With the win, Erath finishes the season 1-9 overall and 1-4 in district. The Bobcats are not expected to make the playoffs.
