- IMC CEO wary of proposed ACA redo
Teche Area residents who are battling cancer have a new cancer center available locally to combat the deadly disease.
Iberia Medical Center and Lafayette General Health have partnered together to provide the community with the new Cancer Center of Acadiana located at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia.
In a statement, Chief Executive Officer for Iberia Medical Center Parker Templeton expressed how important it was to have a local treatment facility for area residents.
“Keeping patients close to home for care means they can spend less time traveling and more time with their loved ones,” Templeton said. “That’s why we’re excited about this partnership with CCA. They’re willing to go that extra mile so our patients don’t have to.”
Added Lafayette General’s Vice President of Cancer Service Craig Ortega, “Our New Iberia clinic has historically sent patients needing infusions to the IMC campus. Moving onto campus will allow us to work more closely with IMC staff. This is better for the patient.”
The new center, located at 2309 E. Main St., Suite 301, is designed to expand the cancer care being already offered at IMC. The renovated and expanded space will be offering intravenous chemotherapy infusions in what officials call a “comfortable setting.”
The oncology office of Dr. Paulette Blanchet will be located adjacent to the infusion area.
Blanchet, who earned her doctor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her internship, residency and fellowship at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, is excited about helping local residents.
“I’m looking forward to helping the people of Iberia Parish,” Blanchet said. “It is my honor to be their physician.”
The new facility is designed so that “patients will be able to see their doctor and receive life-saving chemotherapy infusions the same day, at the same location.”
