JEANERETTE — The Jeanerette Board of Aldermen will further discuss appointing a full-time fire chief at Monday’s regular meeting.

The Jeanerette Volunteer Fire Department has been without a fire chief since July, when Chief Jesse Hebert resigned, but still stayed on as an employee. Veteran firefighter Sherry Landry was appointed as interim fire chief in late July. Landry said she would apply to stay on as permanent chief.

The board also will discuss a proposed property tax increase that would affect Jeanerette residents and businesses. The measure will be introduced by local realtor Patrick Caffery Jr.

The board will schedule a town hall meeting for Jeanerette residents discussing the city’s bulk waste problems. Jeanerette Mayor Aprill Foulcard said at a recent meeting that city government takes care of bulk waste in Jeanerette, but lately residents have been stocking waste in areas around town.

Finally, the board will vote to go into executive session. Interim Jeanerette Police Chief Fernest “Pacman” Martin introduced the measure to discuss police personnel matters with the board.
