16 years in the making

We moved into our home in Southport subdivision in 2001. Our flood insurance was then $200 a year. It has risen steadily since then and we now pay $505, with a $1,250 deductible. Now I understand this amount will go up again.

Upon investigation, I found out that our subdivision is in a flood zone. Are you kidding me? We have lived here for 16 years and “never” had even an inch of water on our lot. The roads have flooded after heavy rains, but no water on our property. I was reading the advertisement in The Daily Iberian on Sunday, November 12th, that Mr. Johnny Romero stated that after the parish employees cleared out the canals and ditches, our problem was solved and the water is now flowing freely. I agree with this assessment.

I guess I should thank our parish government for finally doing something that should have been done 16 years ago — I guess not!

I would just like to get reimbursed for the added amount it has cost me in flood insurance — I guess not again.
