A New Iberia man was fatally shot in a gang-related incident Wednesday morning.

Shortly after hearing shots fired at 11:11 p.m., said the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies found 37-year-old Davon Thompson laying in the intersection of Mississippi and Cletus Streets, having been shot several times. Thompson was taken to Iberia Medical Center, where he died. 

The IPSO said they investigated several reports of shots fired in the 900 block of Mississippi Street previously that day, first at 5:28 p.m. and again at 9:17 p.m. After the first shooting, said IPSO Public Information Officer Wendell Raborn, “a black male walked into the Iberia Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.” He said that deputies were later notified of a second black male who entered a Lafayette hospital with gunshot wounds to his hip and shoulder. Neither wounds were fatal.
