Panthers romp to quarterfinal win over Calvary Baptist

Catholic High jumped out to a big lead on the way to a 49-28 win over Calvary Baptist in the Division III football quarterfinals Friday at CHS to set up a semifinal game against Isidore Newman School next week.

Jadan Stokes rushed for 181 yards and two scores and caught two passes for 78 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers.

Stokes scored twice in the first quarter on a 58-yard run for a score on the Panthers’ third play of the game and a 75-yard touchdown reception on Catholic High’s ninth offensive play. The Cavaliers finished the season with an 8-5 record.

With the win, No. 3 seed Catholic High (10-1) advances to the Division III semifinals next week against No. 2 seed Newman, a 37-7 winner over St. Thomas Aquinas.

It will be the third time the two teams have met in the playoffs with CHS winning the two previous contests, both at Isidore Newman School.

Diallo Landry completed six of eight passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 69 yards and a score for the Panthers, who also got 97 yards on the ground from Ben Landry and 57 yards and two touchdowns from Trey Henry.

Calvary Baptist quarterback Cade Heart completed 12 of 19 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cavaliers.
