After refusing to stop when Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies tried to pull him over Friday, the driver of a white Jeep Cherokee led deputies on a destructive chase through New Iberia.

The attempted traffic stop occurred at Jefferson Terrace Boulevard and St. Peter Street, according to IPSO Public Information Officer Wendell Raborn. The driver, Kenneth Landry Jr., 24, then led officers on a chase down Main Street toward St. Anne, according to Raborn, before ultimately crashing his vehicle into a home in the 200 block of St. Anne.

Landry, who was wanted on a probation and parole revocation warrant, fled on foot after the crash and was detained within a couple blocks of the crash, Raborn said.

The ISPO said deputies found 39 ounces of marijuana and a loaded 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun in Landry’s possession. They also said at least one marked patrol car crashed in the pursuit, but no officers were injured.

Landry was booked into the Iberia Parish jail on a dozen charges, including aggravated flight, aggravated criminal damage to property, felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute and two counts of attempted manslaughter, among other charges.

No bond has been set as of Saturday afternoon.
