Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Velma Richard Moity, 91, who passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017, in New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Deacon Theo Landry will be the officiant.

Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.

Velma Richard Moity was born in Opelousas on November 16, 1926, the sixth of seven children born to the late Homere Richard and Alice Chachere Richard. She was a former longtime resident of Lydia, and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Mrs. Moity was a hardworking lady who enjoyed playing Bridge, exercising, dancing, camping and going to the casino. She was an excellent cook and loved family gatherings. She was a very special lady and will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Moity is survived by daughters Margaret Coco and husband, Myron “Buddy,” of New Iberia and Patricia Casey and husband, Leonhard, of New Orleans; son Warren J. “Puggy” Moity Jr. and wife, Marylaura, of Mandeville; brother Homere Richard Jr. of Opelousas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren J. “Puggy” Moity Sr.; brothers Laurent, Lee and Murphy Richard; sisters Louisiana Smith, Mable Savoie and Wilda Richard; and a grandson Michael McCroskey.

Pallbearers will be Mark Coco, Lyn Coco, Tommy McCroskey, Chaise Coco, Cole Coco and Cody Moity.
