Willard Joseph Delcambre Sr. passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Landmark of Acadiana in Cade. He was 89.
Mr. Delcambre proudly served his country in the United States Army and Navy during WWII. He enlisted into the Navy in 1943, at the age of 15 and was stationed in Pearl Harbor. Willard was tasked with recovering lost people and belongings. He later served a tour on the Pacific aboard a destroyer called The USS Dale. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945 and re-enlisted into the Army. During his years in the Army, Willard was stationed at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. Willard enjoyed going to the horse races and casino. He will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his son Willard Joseph Delcambre Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Skiatook, Oklahoma; and his grandson Justin Delcambre and wife, Brittany.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Syble Hendricks Delcambre; his son John Michael Delcambre; his grandson Jerremy Delcambre; and his sisters Delta Russo and Ethel Breaux.
Members of the family will serve as pallbearers.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. until time of services. Willard will be laid to rest with his wife on Friday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
