A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for Charles R. Kilgore, 74, who passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery with Military Honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Mario Romero will be the celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 9 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A Rosary led by the Men’s Rosary Group will be prayed at 11 a.m. Friday.
A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Kilgore was born on June 24, 1943, in El Campo, Texas and was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a barber for Clyde’s and then worked in the oilfield for 47 years, starting with Movible Offshore and retiring from Tetra Technology. Mr. Kilgore enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Delcambre Kilgore, of New Iberia; daughter Kim Kilgore Monroe and husband, Garret, of Youngsville; sons Shane R. Kilgore and wife, Wendi, of Lafayette and Judson Kilgore and wife, Katrina, of New Iberia; brother David Nelson and wife, Jessie, of New Iberia; grandchildren Kassidy Monroe, Chelsie Kilgore, Cole Thibodaux, Carly Thibodaux, Laurie Williamson, Adyson Kilgore and Greyson Kilgore; sister-in-law Melanie Richard and husband, Wayne, of New Iberia; brother-in-law Michael White and wife, Joni, of Broussard; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Alan Kilgore; mother, Elsie White Kilgore Nelson; and his adoptive father, Robert A. Nelson.
Pallbearers will be Chancey Nelson, Shane Kilgore, Judson Kilgore, Garret Monroe, Ryan Richard, David Genest and Kassidy Monroe.
Honorary pallbearers include Michael White, David Nelson, Wayne Richard, John Hardy, Kenneth Warren and Dicky Wolf.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Robert Hankenhof, the Cancer Center of Acadiana, Grace Home Health Care and Acadian Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and compassion.
