Funeral services for Mr. Johnny “Tapoe” Menard, 69, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Journet & Bolden Funeral Home, 711 S. Corinne Street, New Iberia, LA. Visitation will be observed from 8 a.m. until time of services. Rev. Francis Davis will officiate the services. Interment will be in the St. Matthew Cemetery in New Iberia.

A native of New Iberia and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Menard passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 7:35 a.m. at his residence in New Iberia. Johnny was born on August 8, 1948, to the late Elzina Jacquet and Clarence Menard Sr. He was the third child of his five siblings.

Mr. Johnny worked as a forklift operator at Trappey’s for 24 years until his health began to fail. Johnny was a humble, quiet man who enjoyed his family and friends coming by to watch football and playing cards with his visiting company.

Johnny “Tapoe” as he was known leaves to cherish fond memories his daughter Michelle Pomier; son Michael Pomier; and Linda Shelvin that he reared as a daughter all of New Iberia. In addition to Johnny’s children his fond memory is cherished by his longtime, devoted companion, best friend, soul mate and caretaker Ms. Ella M. Lee of New Iberia; three loving sisters Ida Mae Moore, Dianne Moore-Beloney of New Iberia and Stella May James-Lee of St. Martinville; three loving brothers Clearance Menard, Jimmie Menard and Roy Moore all of New Iberia; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His memory will also be cherished and missed dearly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends. Johnny’s very special and thoughtful god daughter Angela Davidson of California showered her godfather with special gifts during her visits that uplifted him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzina Jacquet and Clarence Menard Sr.; his aunts Victoria Berry, Alberta Cormier, Elsie Brown and Anna Boudreaux; and two nephews Jimmie Menard Jr. and Christopher Menard.

The active pallbearers will be Joseph Badeaux, Raheem Menard, Sam Russell, Celina Reed, Franny Reed, Kiesha Reed, and Mary Reed.

The honorary pallbearers will be Michael Pomier, Adam Pomier, Clarence Menard, Jimmie Menard, Roy Moore, Robert Davidson, William Mouton, Walter Willery and Dwaylan Hurst.
