- Sign of the times at Iberia Medical Center.
The culmination of several years of work was on display Monday afternoon when the Iberia Medical Center’s administration and staff proudly unveiled the hospital’s new expansion and renovations in the labor and delivery unit.
Parker Templeton, IMC’s president and CEO, along with the IMC board of commissioners and several Iberia Parish officials, attended the event, which included a tour of the renovations made to the department.
“It includes updates which nearly doubles the size of the women’s department,” Templeton said.
The renovations, estimated at $1.5 million, include seven new delivery and postpartum rooms, a brand new nursery for infants and a new waiting room. The patient rooms also include a bath for family members. Each room also has WiFi as well as a high-definition television.
“It includes a beautiful room that overlooks the banks of the Bayou Teche, so I’m sure Credence Clearwater would be very proud,” Templeton said with a laugh.
Among the renovations is a new model of service that IMC is rolling out, one that allows patients and family members to stay in the same room throughout the entire delivery process, which Templeton said will increase the efficiency and comfort of patients staying at IMC.
He also noted it is a medical climate that will make the hospital more competitive.
“I got the opportunity to look at the new unit, and it’s very nice,” Iberia Parish President Larry Richard said at the event.
“We’re doing some great things in Iberia Parish and I’m proud to be part of it.
Larry Hensgens, who is on the IMC Board of Commissioners, said the rollout was part of a long-term decision by the board and administration to invest in the hospital.
“A couple of years ago, this hospital was at a crossroads with this department,” Hensgens said.
“Between the administration and board, we made a decision to invest in this community. When you see this facility, you’ll be proud of what this hospital has done. The more I’m here, the more excited I am about this hospital.”
