LOREAUVILLE — Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Angus “Yang” Mestayer, on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 116 Main Street at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Onugebe officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum with Military Honors.
Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Loreauville beginning on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be prayed Wednesday evening January 3, 2018, at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 8 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
Yang passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11:31 p.m. at the Carpenter House Hospice in Lafayette.
Angus Francis “Yang” Mestayer was born to Bertin and Lucy Girouard Mestayer on June 21, 1922, in Loreauville.
Angus was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corp for four years. He achieved the rank sergeant. He was stationed in the South Pacific Theater serving at Guadalcanal, Bougainville and his last duty station was on Green Island.
Yang enjoyed watching sports and his favorite to watch was baseball. He enjoyed playing Bourre’ and Poker with his friends and loved his grand and great-grand-children immensely.
Upon his retirement he and his wife Flo liked to travel. On one of their trips they went to Medjugorje to visit the site of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since their trip to Medjugorije, he and Flo had a deep devotion for saying the Holy Rosary daily together.
Yang is survived by his son Karl J. Mestayer and his wife, Catherine Escuriex Mestayer, of Lafayette; grandchildren Lauren Mestayer, McElligott and husband, Patrick, of Lafayette, John B. Mestayer and his wife, Stacy Humphries Mestayer, of Clearwater Beach, Florida and Christopher F. Mestayer of Houston; great-grandchildren Reid Mestayer and Liam McElligott; and nephew Alan Broussard of Breaux Bridge.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence Moulis Mestayer; parents, Bertin and Lucy Girouard Mestayer; sister Esmee Broussard; brother Albert Mestayer; and his granddaughter Amy T. Mestayer.
Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Mestayer, John Mestayer, Alan Broussard, David Moulis, Patrick McElligott and Darren Blackwell.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will Yang’s two great-grandchildren Reid and Liam.
