I know that in the New Year it’s customary to look forward to the opportunities ahead. However, I have to take this chance to recap five of the best Acadiana LifeStyle moments from 2017. The outstanding response we received from our readers is what made each of these stand out. For starters, I was so humbled by the response to the article in the December issue, “Robicheaux Returns.” I even got an email from author James Lee Burke himself telling me how much he enjoyed the story. It was a great end to this editor’s year.

1.Strength & Beauty – October 2017. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we used breast cancer survivors as our models. Dedicating the issue to their strength and beauty was empowering and inspiring. 2. Steven Champ’s story – September 2017 and Peyton Murphy’s story – October 2017. These articles both featured young men from Iberia Parish overcoming very different health challenges. The day the issues were distributed, you could feel the community’s support and encouragement. 3. Stars of Style – July 2017. Being so closely involved with the premiere fundraiser for the Sugar Cane Festival is something Acadiana LifeStyle takes great pride in. The energy from this particular event continued to build throughout the year. 4. Bright From The Start – May 2017. The way this issue came together was pure perfection. It touched on Mother’s Day, a few outstanding young locals, one beautiful story of a mother daughter duo and we debuted a Parenting Section. It was heartfelt from start to finish. 5. Louisiana Press Association Awards. The Acadiana LifeStyle team was honored to take home 30 LPAs, 11 of which were First Place.
