Firefighters and Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies respond to a fatal three-car crash Wednesday evening on Louisiana 14 near Weeks Island Road.

A fatal three-car crash at approximately 6 p.m. on Louisiana 14 left at least one woman dead and sent several other injured victims to the hospital early Wednesday evening.

Pamela Mogerman, 61, of New Iberia, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Public Information Officer Maj. Wendell Raborn.

Four juveniles also were injured in the crash and taken to local hospitals, Raborn said.

The Sheriff’s Office could not confirm what hospitals victims were taken, nor their conditions as of late Wednesday.

Raborn said one other person was airlifted to a local hospital and one of the drivers walked away without needing medical attention.

The Sheriff’s Office reported the cause of the crash was unknown. However, Raborn said there is suspicion that it could have resulted from one driver’s medical condition.

IPSO is investigating the fatal wreck, he said.

The crash scene was in the northbound lane of Louisiana 14 near Weeks Island Road.

Several onlookers pulled into a parking lot at a nearby EconoMart. They discussed rumors and speculations in the freezing temperatures.

The crash rerouted vehicular traffic for several hours as deputies, firefighters and other first-responders arrived on the scene and extricated victims from the wreck.

The blockage prevented Suzanne Malahmeh, who lives on Louisiana 14 directly in front of the site of the crash, from entering her residence.

“They wouldn’t even let me through. I live right there,” Malahmeh said.

“I have to walk around and enter through the back.”

“That road will be closed for several hours,” Raborn said.
