Betty Mae Kirkwood

A Home-going service will be held for Betty Mae Kirkwood, 75, at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Fletcher Funeral Home with Minister Francis Davis officiating.

She will await the resurrection in St. Paul Cemetery in New Iberia.

Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Betty was born November 7, 1942, and was a life-long resident of New Iberia. She was a faithful member of Bible Way Church under the tutelage of Minister Francis Davis. Betty departed her earthly home  at 12:10 p.m. January 3, 2018, at Iberia Medical Center. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted nephew, Christopher Fuslier (Patricia);  a stepsister, Mildred Walker (Oliver); an uncle, Arthur Joseph (Florence); an aunt, Betty G. Joseph; three special cousins, Stacey Lou Smith, Eleanor Ann Joseph and Deadria Clay; a special friend, Tina Doucet (Daniel); a godchild, Tyrell Shelvin; three special nieces, Rose J. Viltz (Rodney), Sharon Hamilton (Alfred) and Allison Williams; her caregiver, Twyler Doucet; and her church family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Kirkwood and Renella J. Lee; a son, Robert “Tu-Tu” Kirkwood; and a sister Carolyn Jefferson.

Active pallbearers will be Edward Provost, Henry Taylor, Brad Guidry, Robert White, Ronald “Turk” Williams, Adrien Jefferson, Lawrence Jefferson, Cornelius Joseph and Daniel Doucet.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tyrell Shelvin, Brian Pomier, Oliver Walker and Keith Allen.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hale, Dr. Palmiano, Dr. Landry and all other doctors and staff at Iberia Medical Center.
