Mabel L. Romero

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, for Mabel L. Romero, 85, who passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, in New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. A Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Rev. Keith Landry will be the celebrant.  

Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.

A native of Loreauville and longtime resident of New Iberia, Mabel Louviere Romero was born on December 11, 1932, to the late Sydney Louviere and Molly Boudreaux Broussard. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, where she taught religion and belonged to the Rosary Group for over 30 years. 

Mabel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an animal lover and enjoyed shopping, traveling and crossword puzzles. But what she cherished most was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were closest to her heart. She will be deeply missed. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Huey P. Romero Sr.; daughters Sharon Latiolais of New Iberia and Katherine Robichaux and husband, Morris of New Iberia; son Huey P. Romero Jr. of New Iberia; three grandchildren Brooke Gros and husband, Kevin of St. Amant, Brittany Darbonne and husband Derrick of New Iberia and Blake Latiolais of New Port Beach, California; and six great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Kohen and Kortlyn Darbonne and Brody, Knox and Tate Gros; a sister Maude Sanders and husband Harold; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Louviere; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rickey James Romero; brothers Antoine Louviere, Sydney Louviere Jr. and David Broussard; and a sister, Beatrice Fitch.

Pallbearers will be Huey P. Romero Jr., Blake Latiolais, Morris Robichaux, Derrick Darbonne, Kevin Gros and Kirby Boutte.
