Jeanerette rebounds from first league loss

DELCAMBRE — Rebounding from its first District 7-2A loss of the season, Jeanerette High School blew past Delcambre 76-53 Friday to stay one game behind district leader West St. Mary as the first round of district play comes to an end with one game to be made up because of icy winter conditions Tuesday.
Jarred Drexler led the Tigers with 21 points, including three 3-pointers in the first half, and Shonathon Sparrow and Devin Allen each had 13 points as JHS rolled out to a 14-6 first quarter lead and blew the game open with 26 points in the second quarter to extend the lead to 40-18 at the break.
Jeanerette closed out the game with 14 points in the third quarter and 20 points in the final quarter for the 22-point win.
Robert Brooks added 11 for the Tigers, who improved to 8-15 overall and 4-1 in district.
Jeanerette has a district bye Tuesday and returns to action at Loreauville Friday.
For Delcambre, Dravyn Guilbeau and Caylond Torres each had 14 points and Colt Dooley added 9 points. The Panthers still have to make up a game with Catholic High that was postponed Tuesday but Delcambre returns to action this Tuesday at home against Loreauville to close out the first round of district play.
DHS fell to 8-12 overall and 0-4 in district.
Catholic High 48, Ascension Episcopal 40
YOUNGSVILLE — After starting District 7-2A play with two losses, the Catholic High Panthers have won two straight in district play with a victory over Ascension Episcopal Friday.
Kolbe Chretien led CHS with 21 points, including four 3-pointers, and Catholic High held AES to 2 points in the second quarter to take a 23-11 lead into the break and held on to the win despite a 23-point effort from Ascension’s Eric Mouton.
With the win, CHS improved to 12-10 overall and 2-2 in district with one postponed game to be made up and a road game at Franklin Tuesday, the second of four straight games away from home for the Panthers.
Kaiden Burgess added 10 points, Trey Amos had 8 and Javian Willis added 7 points for Catholic High.
Ascension (10-8, 2-2) travels to West St. Mary Tuesday.
Patterson 68, Franklin 52
FRANKLIN — The Franklin Hornets stepped out of district play Friday and dropped a home decision to Patterson.
Individual statistics for the game were not available.
With the loss, Franklin falls to 8-12 overall and is 2-2 in district with a game to be made up against Jeanerette. The Hornets play host to Catholic High Tuesday.
Girls
Catholic High 32, Ascension Episcopal 28
YOUNGSVILLE — Avenging a 27-26 loss to Ascension Episcopal in the District 7-2A opener for both teams back in December, Catholic High rode a 23-point effort from Madison Bienvenu to beat AES Friday to get back into the race for the district title.
Bienvenu scored 10 points in the first quarter, one in the second quarter, four in the third quarter and eight in the final period as she almost single-handedly beat the Lady Gators.
Lauren Bonin added 5 points while Christina Viator and Lidia Trappey each had 2 points for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 7-11 overall and 4-2 in district and have won five of their last six games headed into Tuesday’s game at Franklin.
Christina Lemoine had 15 points for AES, which fell to 8-9 overall and 5-2 in district.
Ascension Episcopal is tied for first with Frankin and Delcambre, each with two district losses.
The Lady Gators travels to Jeanerette Tuesday.
Delcambre 45, Jeanerette 26
DELCAMBRE — Ali Rae Falgout scored 16 of her game-high 21 points in the second half as Delcambre moved into first place tie with Ascension Episcopal and Franklin for the District 7-2A lead with a win over Jeanerette Friday.
Chloe Hernandez added 8 points and Karlie Crochet chipped in 7 for the Lady Panthers, who struggled in the first half before exploding for 30 points in the second half to put the game away.
Delcambre improved to 8-19 overall and 6-2 in district with five straight wins and seven wins in its last nine games. The Lady Panthers play host to Loreauville Tuesday.
Kailey Lively led Jeanerette (4-11 overall, 3-3 district) with 12 points. JHS plays at Academy of the Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau Tuesday.
Franklin 53, Sacred Heart 16
GRAND COTEAU — A’aliyah Smith had 15 points and Kirsten Pedro and Makhai Fernandez each had 11 points as Franklin moved into a tie with Delcambre and Ascension Episcopal for the District 7-2A lead with a win over Academy of the Sacred Heart Friday.
Sta’Trail Butler added 10 points and Jazmin Brent chipped in 5 points for the Lady Hornets, who jumped out to a 10-5 first quarter lead and cruised to 37-point win.
Franklin improved to 7-17 overall and 5-2 in district, tied for first place headed into Tuesday’s game at home against Catholic High.
Individual statistics for ASH (1-11, 0-6) were not available. Sacred Heart play host to Jeanerette Tuesday.
