A 27-year-old man was the victim of a fatal shooting in New Iberia Sunday night.

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies said they responded to a reported shooting in the 300 block of Deare Street shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday night. There, they found 27-year-old Deondrick Bowser lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. 

Bowser was taken to the Iberia Medical Center, the IPSO said, but succumbed there to his wounds. 

Police say bullet shells located at the scene indicated that Bowser was shot by a rifle.

As of Monday evening, no more news was announced on the active investigation.

“We are still working on it,” said IPSO Public Information Officer Wendell Raborn. “As of right now we do not have a motive.”
