Mary Lou Ryes

ST. MARTINVILLE — A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mrs. Mary Lou Ryes, 84, the former Mary Lou Matthews at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Sucharski as celebrant. 

Entombment will follow in Queen of Peace Mausoleum. 

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday at the church until time of service with a Rosary to be recited at 9 a.m. 

A native of Parks and resident of Saint Martinville, she passed away at 1 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2018, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home in Cade. 

She is a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lastly, she enjoyed cooking and working in her yard. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons Joseph Ryes of Port Arthur, Texas, Alvin Ryes I of Los Angeles, Hemson Ryes of Baton Rouge and Liney Ryes of Lafayette; one daughter Marlene Malveaux (Clifton )of Shreveport; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her her husband, Wilson Joseph Ryes Sr.; her mother, Viola Benjamin Davis; her father, Vavaseur Matthews; and her stepfather, Oneal Davis. 

Active pallbearers will be Isaiah Netherly, Alvin Ryes II, Michael Collins, Solinsky Mitchell, Jason Chretien and Hayward Broussard. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Ryes, Alvin Ryes I, Hemson Ryes, Liney Ryes, Clifton Malveaux, Douglas Malveaux, Schaefer Benjamin and Patrick Broussard. 

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Home, 609 West Admiral Doyle Drive, New Iberia, Louisiana 70560.
