Delcambre girls move into 1st place in district

YOUNGSVILLE — It took an extra period, but the Delcambre Lady Panthers moved into first place in District 7-2A with a 33-32 win over Ascension Episcopal Friday.

Tayah Lewis had 10 points and Karlie Crochet added 9 for the Lady Panthers. Delcambre survived a fourth-quarter rally from the Lady Gators and outscored AES by 1 point in the overtime period to move into solo possession of first place in district by one game with two weeks left in the regular season.

Delcambre has lost two district games. AES, Catholic High and Franklin each have lost three in district.

Christionna Lemoile led Ascension (9-10, 6-3) with a game-high 20 points.

Delcambre (10-19, 8-2) has won seven straight and eight of its last 10. The Lady Panthers return to action Tuesday at home against West St. Mary.

Catholic High 40, ASH-Grand Coteau 19

Christina Viator and Madison Bienvenu each had 10 points as Catholic High stayed in second place in District 7-2A with a win over Academy of the Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau Friday.

Anna Gonsoulin added 9 points for the Lady Panthers, who jumped out to a 7-2 first quarter lead and cruised to the 21 point win.

CHS (9-12 overall, 6-3 district) has won three straight game and seven of its last eight and is tied with Ascension Episcopal and Franklin for second place in district.

Courtney Aune led ASH (1-14, 0-9)  with 10 points.

Catholic High travels to Jeanerette Tuesday.

Franklin 55, West St. Mary 30

BALDWIN — Ajontae McDaniel scored a career-high 24 points and Makhai Fernandez added 12 points as Franklin rebounded from a Tuesday loss to Catholic High to beat rival West St. Mary Friday in District 7-2A action.

Sta’Trail Butler added 7 for Franklin. The Lady Hornets held WSM scoreless for the first quarter in taking a 15-0 lead and pulled away from there.

Takylan Hamilton led the Lady Wolfpack with 10 points.

Franklin (8-19, 5-3) stayed in second place in district with the win and plays host to Loreauville Tuesday. WSM (2-11, 1-8) travels to Delcambre Tuesday.

Boys

Catholic High 57, Delcambre 53, OT

Kolbe Chretien led four players in double-figure scoring as Catholic High beat Delcambre in overtime for a District 7-2A win Friday.

Chretien had 14 points, Isaac Thibodeaux had 12 points, Trey Amos chipped in 11 points and Kaiden Burgess finished with 10 for CHS, which rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game and then outscored Delcambre 13-9 in the extra period for the win.

Thomas Jones had 16 points and Colt Dooley added 10 for Delcambre, which fell to 10-13 overall and 2-5 in district.

Catholic High (13-11, 3-3) travels to Jeanerette Tuesday while Delcambre plays host to West St. Mary.

Jeanerette 78, Loreauville 59

LOREAUVILLE — Shonathon Sparrow scored all 16 points in the first half as Jeanerette bolted out to a 37-24 halftime lead in beating Loreauville Friday in District 7-2A action.

Sparrow was one of four players in double-figures for Jeanerette as Devin Allen and Toddrick Paul each had 15 points and Marquise Colbert added 13 in the win for JHS, which improved to 9-16, 5-2.

Matthew Henton had a game-high 32 for Loreauville ( 3-18, 0-6) which travels to Franklin Tuesday.

St. Martinville 52, Beau Chene 47

ST. MARTINVILLE — Jayvion Mitchell had 17 points and Brian Wiltz added 14 as St. Martinville Senior High beat Beau Chene Friday in a District 5-4A game.

The Tigers (13-16, 2-2) trailed 22-13 at the end of the first quarter, then outscored the Gators the rest of the way to pick up the win.

Beau Chene (16-12, 1-3) was led by 19 points from Skyler Arceneaux.

SMSH plays host to Breaux Bridge Tuesday.

Morgan City 61, Centerville 54

CENTERVILLE — Tywaun Walker had 24 points as Morgan City beat Centerville 61-54 Friday in a non-district game.

Jared Singleton added 14 and Kerwin Francois chipped in 12 for the Tigers (17-5), who trailed 29-23 at halftime, and outscored CHS 38-25 in the second half for the win.

Jaylon Williams had a game-high 28 points to lead Centeville (9-9) while Marquis Strawder finished with 19 in the losing effort.

Centerville opens District 7-A play Tuesday at Vermilion Catholic.
