A man was found dead Monday night inside a bullet-riddled vehicle parked in St. Edward’s Subdivision on Mississippi Street in New Iberia, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

IPSO spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn said deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of Mississippi Street at about 11:44 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, deputies located a vehicle, riddled with bullet holes, and inside was 27-year-old Kahidrick Mitchell.

Mitchell suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Coroner’s Office, Raborn said. The case is being investigated as a homicide, the IPSO spokesman said.

According to arrest reports, Mitchell was arrested three times in 2017 and once in 2015. His most recent arrest was July 19 and included charges of aggravated flight from an officer, possession with intent to distribute schedule I, false representation of a CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, second or subsequent offenses, improper turning signal and resisting an officer by flight.

Raborn said the fatal shooting is being investigated. He declined to comment on where inside the vehicle Mitchell was found.

The shooting site on Mississippi Street was the same location where a month ago NFL defensive linebacker Damon “Snacks” Harrison held a Christmas drive to present gifts to lower income children in the community.

The Mitchell homicide marks the second reported murder in the first month of 2018.

Deondrick Bowser, 27, was found lying in the road on the 300 block of Deare Street with multiple bullets in his chest on Jan. 21. Bowser died from his wounds after being taken to Iberia Medical Center.

There also have been an additional three shootings reported in New Iberia, Raborn said.
