A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Edward Lynn Higgins, 68, who passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at his home.

A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday. A Rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Rev. Keith Landry will be the officiant. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.

Edward Lynn Higgins was born in Zwolle on September 14, 1949, to the late Myrtle Claire Procell Higgins and Frank Asa Higgins Sr. He worked as a steward in the oilfield most of his life, then most recently as a consultant before retirement. Mr. Higgins was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #7050 and held a Come Lord Jesus group at his home for many years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, movies and playing on his Kindle. But his greatest joy was his grandchildren and his constant companion, his little dog Princess. He will be deeply missed. 

Mr. Higgins is survived by his loving wife of  42 years, Laurel Boutte Higgins; son Christopher Michael Higgins and wife, Tina, of New Iberia; daughter Crystal Lynn Darby and husband, Albert, of New Iberia; sisters Carole Hickingbottom of Doyline, Maureen Mayes of Minden, Katie Bernard and husband, Richard, of Leechburg, Pennsylvania; brother Frank Higgins Jr. and wife, Helen Elaine, of Jasper, Texas; grandchildren Dax Prejean, Dakotah Prejean, Justin Darby, Sadé Basham, McKenzie Elizabeth Higgins and Ava Claire Higgins.

He was preceded in death by a sister Gladys Dreher; father, Frank Asa Higgins Sr.; mother, Myrtle Claire Procell Higgins; mother-in-law, Earldean M. Boutte; and father-in-law, Raymond P. Boutte.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Higgins, Dax Prejean, Michael A. Bonin, Albert Darby, Brian Blanchard and Jason Bonin.

Honorary pallbearers are Justin Darby and Edward’s “best lil’ buddy,” Jacob Bonin.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Heart of Hospice for excellent care and to Ada and Michael Bonin, Maureen and Nelson Boudreaux, Charlie and Gail Young, Jason and Erica Bonin and Leah and Matt Gachassin for all of their help and support during this difficult time.
