Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Arthur “Ossie” Jolivette Jr., departed this life surrounded by family, to join his loving wife in Heaven on February 13, 2018.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on February 16, 2018, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery with military honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Bill Melancon will be the celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at noon.
Ossie was born on July 22, 1936, to the late Arthur Jolivette Sr. and Leona Derouen Jolivette Nelson and was a lifetime resident of New Iberia. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.
Best known for his home lawnmower repairs and being an all around handyman, Ossie will forever be remembered with a cigar in his mouth, an O’Doul’s in his hand and a shop door always open for visitors and jokes. He enjoyed the simple things in life and never passed up the opportunity of spending time and conversing with those he considered friends and family. Though he will be remembered for many great things, it was his unwavering love and loyalty to his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Jolivette, that will forever resonate with his friends and family. For ten years Ossie selflessly and compassionately cared for his wife who battled and recently lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease in October of 2017. As their love story has it, he made it home to meet his girl just in time for Valentine’s Day.
He will be truly missed by his children Kim Richard and husband, M. Larry, Jackie Jolivette and David Jolivette and wife, Laura, all of New Iberia; his grandchildren Tyler Richard, Hilary Raggette, Morgan Richard Olivier and husband, Rusty, Trevor Jolivette, Holden Raggette, Tristian Jolivette and Taylon Jolivette; great-grandchildren Aiden Olivier and Kash Raggette. The oldest of 14 children, he is survived by his siblings Yvonne Sonnier of Lafayette, Larry Jolivette of New Iberia, Ralph Jolivette and wife, Gloria, of the state of Washington, Leona “Lil” Jolivette Zenon of Lafayette and Rodney Jolivette of New Iberia.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Johnny Nelson; and his siblings Josephine “Sis” Barras, Ethel Mae Chretien, Martin Jolivette, Wilda Jolivette, Wayne Jolivette, Bradley “Fuzzy” Jolivette, Felton Jolivette and James “Jimmy” Jolivette.
Pallbearers include David Jolivette, Trevor Jolivette, Tyler Richard, M. Larry Richard, Vance Jolivette and Rusty Olivier.
