A native of New Iberia and a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, Mrs. Lou passed away at 7:58 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at WakeMed Hospital in Cary, North Carolina.

She was a great mother to her children and at one time she was a Cub Scout leader, Avon Sales person, but probably best remembered as “Lou” owner of Lou’s Plaster Gallery. She hosted many children and adults at the Gallery and taught them how to paint and have fun! Her slogan was “Forget Your Blues, Paint at Lou’s!”

She also enjoyed making porcelain dolls from the bisque stage through firing, painting, and finally hand sewing garments beyond belief. She completed with pride over 300 of her porcelain beauties, many of them becoming gifts to her friends and relatives.

She and her husband Carl Sr. (Mac, or BBD) lived at their camp at Cypremort Point for 11 years and loved to entertain and loved to go fishing. She is survived by her daughter Susan McDowell Rainbow and husband Timothy of Fabius, New York, son Russ McDowell and Husband Michael Mason of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughter, Starr McDowell Sanford and husband Michael of Zachary; grandson, Clint McDowell and wife Stephanie of Lafayette; granddaughters, Sunni Ray of Fabius, New York, Rusti Ray of New Iberia, Molli Rainbow of Fabius, New York, Carli Rainbow of Fabius, New York and Timmi Sue Rainbow of Fabius, New York, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years Carl H. McDowell, her parents Alcee and Marie Comeaux Romero, and her son Carl “Poochie” McDowell.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be respectfully considered to The Wounded Warrior Fund.
