LeLeux, Suire win individual state indoor titles

BATON ROUGE — Reagann LeLeux won the state indoor pole vault title and Ethan Suire of Erath won the 800 meter run, Westgate High School and Erath High were top 10 squads in their respective divisions and five Teche Area athletes had podium finishes at the 2018 LHSAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at LSU’s Carl Maddox Field House.

Westgate was eighth in the boys’ Division I competition with 15 points.

Erath finished ninth in the Division II boys’ competition with 16 points and 11th in the girls’ competition with 12 points.

CHS tied for 14th in the girls’ Division II team standings with 10 points. The CHS boys were tied for 16th with 8 points.

Delcambre was tied for 26th in the boys’ Division II standings with 1 point.

Zachary won the Division I girls’ team title with 66 points with Lafayette second at 56 and John Curtis third with 35. Sacred Heart of New Orleans won the Division II crown with 53 points, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (37), Brusly (34) and St. James (31).

John Curtis won the boys’ Division I crown with 58.50 points. Zachary was second with 43 and Catholic of Baton Rouge third with 31. Episcopal of Baton Rouge swept to the Division II title with 86 points, followed by Berwick (50), West Feliciana (42) and Baker (30). 

Top three finishers

LeLeux topped 3.75 meters (12 feet, 3 1/2 inches) to win the Division II girls’ pole vault crown.

Suire won the Division II 800-meter run in 2:02.57.

Nicholas Russell of CHS was second in the boys’ Division II pole vault at 4.70 meters (15-5). Kenny Odinet of Ascension Episcopal won the crown at 4.90 meter (16-0 3/4).

Kolyn Saltzman of Westgate was third in the boys’ 3,200 meter run in 9:59.91 and ReShaun Fridie was third in the long jump at 21 feet, 4 3/4 inches.

Troynae Walker of Erath finished third in two Division II girls’ events — the 60-meter hurdles (9.28 seconds) and the high jump (5-2, tied for second but third on jumps).

Boys

Fridie also finished fifth in the triple jump at 43-2.

Kayshon Boutte was sixth in the Division I boys’ 400-meter dash in 50.18 seconds and 13th in the boys’ 60-meter dash in 7.15 seconds for Westgate.

Westgate was 10th in the 4×200 relay in 1:34.39 with Boutte, Fridie, Dia’Mhireyeh Green and Blayne Delahoussaye running for the Tigers.

Creed Courtois of Westgate was 11th in the high jump at 3.65 meters (11-11 3/4).

Joshua Mason finished 10th in the long jump for New Iberia Senior High at 20 feet, 1/2 inch.

Cameron Carpenter of Erath was seventh in the Division II 1,600 in 4:54.88. Blaze Bright of Erath was 11th in the 3,200 in 11:59.72. Mason Roy finished seventh in the pole vault for the Bobcats at 3.45 meters (11-3 3/4).

Erath’s 4×800 relay team of Carpenter, Bright, Jason LeBlanc and Suire were third in 9:06.17.

Kylan Verret of Delcambre was sixth in the Division II pole vault at 3.65 meters (11-11 3/4).

Girls

Shatoya Linzer of NISH was fourth in the girls’ Division I 60-meter hurdles in 9.86 seconds after qualifying No. 1 in 9.41 seconds.

New Iberia’s 4×200 relay team was sixth in 1:48.64 with Alaysha Dauphine, Aliana Henry, Precious Barlow and Linzer running the four legs.

Linzer, Henry, Japerlyn Pitre and Dauphine finished seventh in the 4×400 for NISH in 4:26.53.

Amari Mouton was 10th for New Iberia in the triple jump at 31 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Regine Johnson was 15th in the shot put at 28-1 1/2.

Westgate’s Caitlin Booker was 10th in the Division I 3,200-meter run in 13:01.72.

Kelis Boutte finished 12th in the high jump at 4-8.

Delcambre’s Jillian Bouton was one of five athletes who finished at 2.65 meters (8-8 1/4) in the Division II girls’ pole vault. Chloe Peloquin of Oberlin was ninth in the competition at that height based on fewer jumps needed to clear the height. Bouton was 10th, Erath’s Mckenzie Sigur and Emma Langlinais tied for 11th and Braelynn Gautreau of CHS was 13th.
