Arrest made in fatal shooting

A Baldwin man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a Mardi Gras fatal shooting Feb. 4  in Jeanerette. 

Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn said Kentrell Gabriel was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force with assistance from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics, Investigations and Patrol Divisions.

After Jeanerette’s Krewe of Ezana Mardi Gras parade that Sunday afternoon the first week of February, shooting erupted. One man was killed and another man was wounded. 

Dante Archangel, 22, of Jeanerette, who was shot once in the chest, died at a Lafayette hospital.

Gabriel was being sought on a warrant for principle to second-degree murder and principle to attempted second-degree murder in the shooting. Gabriel was arrested at his home in Baldwin. 

Following the arrest, Gabriel was booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail before being transferred to the Iberia Parish Jail. No bond has been set as of deadline Tuesday.

Thaddeus Gabriel, 22, of Baldwin, and Dandre Gabriel. 24, of Jeanerette. were arrested earlier this month in connection with the murder.
