The contents of this issue came together in way that I had not anticipated. It was another “happy accident” as I often say of the way things fall into place around here. The juxtaposition of the business section and the feature stories, namely those focusing on history, work together to create a really beautiful and dynamic portrait of the community.
The Progress Section is a true labor of love to put together. But when our team finally completes it, we always sit back in awe of all of each of the thriving businesses detailed in the section and the hardworking and savvy local business leaders behind them. Accompanying this story, which is part of the Business Section, is a detailed look into “Acadiana’s Economic Vitals” provided by One Acadiana and delightfully fun story that dives into “Business on the Basin.”
The history stories I was referencing are “HerStory: Local Women Preserving History” and “The Queen City’s Crown.” “HerStory” is in honor of March being Women’s History Month. We spoke to three ladies who have dedicated their lives to preserving history, specifically Acadiana’s history. Each of these ladies have so much on their horizons, I am confident this is far form the last time we’ll be crossing paths and printing their names. “The Queen City’s Crown” documents the journey of New Iberia’s Main Street becoming a National Register Commercial Historic District.
And now, with our business issue behind us, it’s time for the Acadiana LifeStyle team to play dress up! Well, not us exactly (but I promise it’s not because of my lack of trying), but models for the Spring fashion shoot in the April issue! The concept for our upcoming layout is airy, whimsical and sophisticated. If you’re a clothing retailer, you’re going to want in on this one.
