HOUSTON — Akeem Masheeq Daniels of New Iberia, a homicide suspect, has been apprehended.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office released a prepared statement Monday afternoon that Daniels was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force in Houston. Daniels was wanted on a second-degree murder warrant for the March 1 shooting death of 29-year-old Courtland Hall in New Iberia.
According to IPSO spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn, Hall, of New Iberia, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest after an apparent argument in the 900 block of Mississippi Street. Deputies attempted to revive him at the scene but the victim was pronounced dead at Iberia Medical Center.
Daniels’ two companions on the night of the shooting death, Isaiah Johnson and Avan Francisco, turned themselves into IPSO detectives. They were questioned and released.
According to IPSO, Daniels fled the scene in a 1978 two-door white Cadillac with a 2 child which prompted an Amber Alert for the area. The baby, and the vehicle, were found early Friday morning.
Daniels is in the Harris County Jail awaiting extradition to Iberia Parish.
