- Braxton Resweber, and his father, Paul Resweber, hold bass that helped them win two tournaments.
HEMPHILL, Texas — When the clock struck 2:40 p.m. March 2, 3 and 4, it was time to catch a big’un.
Paul Resweber and his son, Braxton, both of St. Martinville, did it like clockwork on their way to winning both the Louisiana Bass Cats and Catahoula Bass Association tournament March 3-4 at Toledo Bend.
Braxton, a sophomore at ULL, is a member of both bass clubs. His father was a guest.
On Friday, the day before the tournaments began, Braxton caught a 6-pounder on a Carolina-rigged dark Baby Brush Hogs at 2:40. On Saturday, the first day of the tournaments, his father caught a 4-pound, 15-ounce bass on a watermelon wacky worm at 2:40 to anchor a 13-pound, 4-ounce limit. On Sunday, the elder Resweber nailed a 7.12-pound bass at 2:35 that anchored a 23-pounds stringer for a two-day total of 36.4 pounds, enough to top the fields in both bass clubs from the Teche Area.
“That was great. It feels great. We were in 50th place Saturday with both clubs,” Paul Resweber said.
“I mean, we had fun. Just everything worked out for us Sunday,” his son said.
Runners-up in the Bass Cats were Ben Suit and Eric Fuselier with 36 pounds. Runners-up in the CBA were Randal Savoy and Randy Carter with 33.1 pounds.
Resweber’s bass was the biggest Sunday in both clubs.
