LOREAUVILLE — The Mayor Al Memorial 5K and and 1 mile Walk is scheduled for Saturday, followed by the Loreauville Family Fun Day.
The event is intended to commemorate former Loreauville Mayor Al Broussard, who was killed in a head-on collision on Good Friday in 2015. Broussard had served as the village’s mayor for years, and was known for, among other things, wearing yellow Crocs.
At the time of his death, Broussard also was chairman of The New Acadia Project, which is an archaeological venture trying to find the remains of the first Acadian settlement in Louisiana. Proceeds for the event will go to The New Acadia Project.
Loreauville Family Fun Day will be held immediately following the run, which will include jambalaya, drinks, fun jumps, music, a magician, a silent auction and more.
