- PONY Baseball Central Region Louisiana State Director Baseball Region Director Ken May, from left, PonyDivision Director Alton Darby, Jr. and Spike Baudoin of the Iberia Parish Recreation Department join Iberia Athletic Association president Chance Maturin for opening ceremonies Saturday at the Airbase Ballpark located at the Acadiana Regional Airport.
Longtime league official Wayne Derouen was honored by the Iberia Athletic Association at opening ceremonies Saturday, though heavy rains early in the day that left the fields mostly unplayable pushed back opening games until Tuesday for most of the league.

Derouen served on the league board for more than a decade, IAA president Chance Maturin said at Saturday’s ceremonies. He also was responsible for maintaining the fields, something he did every morning without fail until health reasons forced him to retire, Maturin said.
IAA will dedicate this season to Derouen and is naming one of the fields at the Airbase Ballparks in his honor, Maturin said.
In addition to the 175-plus young players and their coaches and families attending Saturday’s ceremonies were PONY Baseball Central Region Louisiana State Director Baseball Region Director Ken May and Pony Division Director Alton Darby Jr. and Spike Baudoin of the Iberia Parish Recreation Department.
Two T-ball games were played Saturday but the remainder of the league begins play Tuesday with final games set for May 26.
Boys and girls ages 4-18 play in the PONY affiliated-league.
