JEANERETTE — A Home-Going Celebration will be held for Maggie Mae Paul, the former Maggie Mae Whitehead on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Jeanerette, with Rev. Arthur Lee Jones, officiating. 

She will await the resurrection at the aforementioned church’s cemetery. 

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 8 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at the church until the time of service.

A native and resident of Jeanerette, Maggie passed away at approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, in her home, surrounded by family. Maggie grew up within the walls of Mount Calvary, where she remained a faithful member until her passing. She was considered her family’s matriarch, and valued the relationships between her tightly-knit kin. Maggie remembered each child’s and grandchild’s birthday and made tradition of calling them every year with a special birthday song. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching soap operas and game shows, and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Maggie was also an excellent cook, and was well-known in the area for her famous red beans and rice recipe. She was, and will always be remembered as, a charismatic, kind, talented and funny woman, assured and steadfast in her faith.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Madeline Paul Lewis and Dana Paul Peter of Jeanerette; four sons, Darrel Joseph Paul of Jeanerette, Earl Ray Paul Sr. (Vernell) of New Iberia, Gaylord Paul III (Renee) of Aurora, Colorado, and Clifford Charles Paul (Kimolyn) of Franklin; two nieces she helped rear, Valerie Steele and Beedie Whitehead of Denver; one aunt, Naomi Whitehead of New Orleans; one godchild, Gwendolyn Whitehead; special friends Ethel Gage and the Whitehead sisters, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord Paul Jr.; her parents, Clifford Whitehead and Elizabeth Louis Whitehead; step-mother, Ethelyn Whitehead; one sister, Catherine Whitehead Jones; one brother, Donald Whitehead; one great-granddaughter, Payton Paul; two sons-in-law, Kenneth Lewis and Troy Peter; three sisters-in-law, Cecile Scott, Ella Mae Lambert and Corrine Whitehead and her mother-in-law, Leona Paul.

Active pallbearers are Earl Paul Jr., Quinton Paul, Brandon Paul, Toddrick Paul, Abrean Broussard, Jordy Gibson, Larry Johnson and Zaphany A. Banks. 

Honorary pallbearers are Darrel Paul, Earl Ray Paul Sr., Gaylord Paul III, Clifford Paul, Cedric Paul, Henderson Scott, Royal Scott, Greg Scott, Wayne Scott and Andrew Lambert.
