BATON ROUGE — LSU added depth to a shallow cornerback position Thursday when cornerback Terrence Alexander signed with the Tigers.

The John Curtis product will be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer from Stanford.

In four years at Stanford, the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder appeared in 41 games with 57 tackles, one interception and eight passes defended. He had his senior season cut short after just one game when he was injured in the season-opener against Rice.

Alexander will have one season of eligibility remaining at LSU after being granted a medical redshirt for the 2017 season.

At John Curtis, Alexander

helped his team win three state titles from 2011-13. He was also part of indoor and outdoor track and field titles from 2011-13.

The Tigers needed additional players at cornerback under coach Corey Raymond after the nation’s top cornerback, Patrick Surtain Jr. of American Heritage High in Plantation, Florida, spurned LSU the night before signing day. LSU reportedly had already told cornerback Mario Goodrich of Lees Summit, Missouri, the weekend before signing day that they would not have room to sign him. Goodrich inked with Clemson.

LSU juniors Donté Jackson and Kevin Toliver II both declared for the NFL draft following the season, making the position one of need in the recruiting cycle.

Andraez “Greedy” Williams, Kary Vincent Jr. and Jontre Kirklin return at cornerback for LSU with Mannie Netherly moving from receiver to cornerback in the spring. All are sophomores with Williams named a freshman All-American and an All-SEC pick CHS tennis 041318after making six interceptions in 2017. Highly recruited Kristian Fulton has been banned for two years by the NCAA.
