Angler’s body found in borrow pit

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating the death of a man found  Wednesday afternoon near Lake Fausse Pointe in Iberia Parish. 

According to a prepared statement from LDWF, the body of William Londo, 56, was found around noon in a borrow pit near Lake Fausse Pointe about 10 miles north of Charenton. His body was turned over to the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death. 

According to his family, Londo left home to go fishing in a small, flat fishing boat around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. After he didn’t return home from fishing, the family contacted authorities.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted in conducting the search. According to the statement, it is unknown how Londo entered the water, and his body was found without a personal flotation device. 

LDWF will be the lead investigative agency for the boating fatality.
