- A house on Iberia Street has been rehabilitated by Iberia Habitat for Humanity.
Iberia Habitat for Humanity recently completed their second major project by renovating a home on Iberia Street for a family to live in.
Director Leah Babin said the organization purchased the home on south Iberia Street, which came with a vacant lot directly behind the home with its own street access attached to the sale, in May 2017. With the help of the New Iberia government, Habitat for Humanity was able to separate the Providence Street lot from the Iberia Street property, and will be used for a future building.
“Since this was a rehabilitation project, it took the community coming together to make sure everything was working properly,” Babin said.
Some of the businesses that contributed to the project included Doerle’s Air Conditioning and Heating, Prados Electric, Prados Electric, Alleman’s Plumbing, Moore’s Plumbing, American Alarms and Bayou Paints.
“Each donation, whether by an individual, another local organization or by a business helps someone get a ‘hand-up’ into home ownership,” Babin said. “You cannot put into words the gratitude expressed by that partner family when they turn the key to open the door to their new home.”
The home was completed Feb. 23, and is occupied by Habitat’s newest partner family.
