Former Iberia Parish Sheriff Sid Hebert of New Iberia was arrested Friday night by Louisiana State Police and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and careless operation of a vehicle. 

The arrest took place in Vermilion Parish, according to State Police. Hebert, was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail at 7 p.m. Friday. 

It was a first-time OWI charge for Hebert, State Police said. 

Hebert was released from the Vermilion Parish Jail shortly afterward on a bond of $1,000.
