Highland, ESA send several on

LAFAYETTE — The Highland Baptist Lady Bears finished in sixth place at the Class A, Region II meet held at UL-Lafayette Track/Soccer Complex Tuesday with several athletes finishing in the top three or winning their respective events to move on to the state meet Friday at LSU.

Marin Barras won the discus with a toss of 104-5; Bri Sensley won the long jump with a leap of 16-9 ½; Dusti Abshire finished third in the 1,600 meters and Lauralee Guidry finished third in the pole vault.

Class B, Region III

MIDLAND — ESA’s girls rolled up 159 points to win the Class B, Region III meet held Tuesday at Midland High School.

For the Lady Falcons, Kailie Williams won the 100 meter dash (12.47) with Mary Catherine Louis second. Williams also won the 200 meters (27.18) and Louis was second in the long jump and third in the 200 meters.

ESA also finished second in the 4×200 meter relay and won the 4×400 meter relay (teams unavailable); Samantha Withers won the 400 meters (1 minute, 4.29 seconds) with Madeline Breaux second; Hailie Williams won the 300 hurdles (51.77) and the high jump (4-8) and was second in the 100 hurdles; Aline Malik won the 3200 meters (12:51.34) with Withers third; Withers was also second in the 1600 meters and second in the 800 meters with Breigh Rodriguez third in the event.

In the boys’ meet, ESA finished third with 58 points behind meet winner J.S. Clark Leadership Academy (152) and host Midland (70).

Advancing to the state meet from ESA were Daniel Magann, who won the 3,200 meters (11:10.45) and finished third in the 1,600 meters; the 4×400 relay team which finished third (team unavailable); Emil Meyer was second in the 200 meters and Will Lemoine was third in the 300 hurdles.

The Class B state meet will be held Thursday at LSU.
