A man who attempted to break into a Jeanerette tobacco store was arrested by the Jeanerette Police Department and Marshal’s Office Tuesday.
According to a prepared statement from City Marshal Fernest “Pacman” Martin, the JPD responded to an alarm call at approximately 12:25 a.m. Tuesday at 2421 West Main in Jeanerette, the location of Smoke and Go Tobacco.
Martin said the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Curtis Picard of Charenton, attempted to enter the store by firing a small handgun into the glass of the business. After his arrest, the Marshal learned Picard had active warrants in St. Mary and Iberia parishes.
Picard was taken to the Iberia Parish Jail for arraignment. He is charged with one count of simple attempted burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
