Everyone knew that Catholic High senior Reagann LeLeux was going to win her signature event at the Class 2A, Region II track meet Tuesday at New Iberia Senior High.

The nationally ranked CHS pole vaulter did just that when she cleared a height of 12 feet, 7 inches, more than three feet higher than her second place teammate, Braelynn Gautreaux, who cleared nine feet, while setting the regional record in the process.

But LeLeux also came into the regional meet having won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the District 7-2A meet and ran in both events at the regional — and came away with two victories.

LeLeux won the 100 meters in a time of 12.30 seconds, beating Hannah Young of The Church Academy by 0.15 seconds and then followed that with a win in the 200 meters (25.80) besting Young again, by 0.08 seconds.

Three events, three wins and most likely the favorite in all three events at the LHSAA State Outdoor meet next week.

“I knew going in that I was going to win the pole vault,” LeLeux said. “I went into the meet with the plan of going for a big height (in pole vault) and then concentrate on running.

“Of course, I jumped 12-7 which broke the regional height and my dad looked at me and said, ‘Do you want to go 13-1?’ and I said let’s save 14 for state and focus on making it to state with the running.”

LeLeux said she didn’t know she was going to win the sprints, she just wanted to go into the running events with a clear mind in an effort to make it to the state meet in both running events.

With LeLeux’s wins, the Catholic High Lady Panthers finished the regional meet with 69 points and a third-place finish. Episcopal High of Baton Rouge won the meet with 97 points and Port Allen finished second with 77 points.

Delcambre High finished in seventh place with 33 1/3 points. Jeanerette was 14th with 10 points, West St. Mary finished 16th with five points and Franklin finished 19th with 1 point.

In the boys’ meet, Episcopal finished the sweep with 146 points with East Feliciana second (98) and The Church Academy third (67).

Catholic High finished fourth (45), West St. Mary and Franklin finished tied for ninth with Dunham and DeQuincey with 12 points and Delcambre finished tied for 13th with Northeast with 11 points.

Several local athletes finished in the top three in their respective events to earn bids to the state meet next Friday at Bernie Moore Track Stadium at LSU.

In addition to LeLeux in her three events, Catholic High also will send Anna Gonsoulin, who won the girls’ javelin (122-8); Tiffany LeBlanc in the 800 meter and 1,600 meter runs, Trey Amos in the long jump, defending state champion Nicholas Russel in the boys pole vault and Peter LeBlanc in the 300 hurdles and the triple jump

Delcambre’s Amalie Bouton finished third in the girls high jump; the 4×200 team of Lexi Guidry, Bouton, Ava Breaux, Vivian Fontenot also finished third with alternates Grace Roy and Caroline Odinet.

West St. Mary will send its boys’ 4×200 relay team of Demondric Pierre, Desmon Washington, Daylon Richard, Ray Johnson and alternates Azhylan Brown and Tristan Harris. Jeanerette will send its girls’ 4×100 meter relay team of Ashanti Jordan, Cody Caesar, Shirleysha McCreary, Tionne Williams and alternates Ki’Jah Lively and Diamond Walters. Franklin will send its boys’ 4×100 relay team of Jaylon Roberson, Malik King, Jarius Boyd, Kentrell Lewis and alternates Zariq Perry and Roy Jackson.
