- Sewer revenue bonds on council agenda
The New Iberia City Council will receive an update and take action on the status of the Shot Street shotgun homes in the process of being removed at Tuesday’s meeting.
The abandoned homes, which are owned by the Mixon family,, have been on City Council agendas for several months as Frank Mixon Jr. has been in the process of moving the homes.
City Councilman Marlon Lewis said Mixon had finished removing the homes he chose to move elsewhere, and the rest of the homes are scheduled for demolition.
Lewis also said with the historic homes gone, he has heard from several residents who want to rename Shot Street. Although it’s not an agenda item, Lewis said he’s begun looking into the process.
In other business, City Council members will receive a report from legal counsel Jeff Simon on the proposed changes to the city’s nuisance ordinances. A nuisance ordinance committee formed last year led by Councilwoman Sherry Guidry with the intention to revise and update nuisance laws in the city of New Iberia.
Simon also will discuss the appointment of members to the Squirrel Run levee district committee at Tuesday’s meeting.
Councilman David Broussard will report on the city’s railroad committee meeting, which was held last week. Broussard also plans to discuss safety projects on the BNSF mainline railroad in New Iberia.
And Guidry will discuss the feasibility of a four-way stop sign for the intersection of Charles and Ann streets.
Armond Schwing with Schwing Insurance Agency will present the mayor and City Council with the city’s Louisiana Workers Compensation Corporation dividend check, and the Rev. Zack Mitchell will address the council to discuss events planned in District 6.
The meeting is scheduled to be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the third floor of New Iberia City Hall.
