Catholic High senior pitcher/outfielder Broc Romero was looking for a place to play some college baseball.

He found it Wednesday as the CHS lefty starter signed with LSU-Alexandria.

“I went to the college and it was a nice place,” said Romero, who’s in the middle of the Panthers’ Division III playoff run. “It was a small place but a place where I can better my career and live out my dream.”

Romero said that he knows some people at LSU-A which made his choice a little easier, but at the same time really found that he liked the campus and the community.

“I just like how everything was put together,” said Romero, who is expected to continue pitching with the Generals but could also be in the outfield rotation.

Romero said he had some other options for college as well.

“LSU-E looked at me for a while and I had some offers from some small junior colleges but other than that, no one else really took an interest in me,” Romero said.

“But I’d rather go here to Alexandria.”

Romero said he isn’t sure what his major will be in college but for now he is looking into a business degree.

He added that at LSU-A there is a junior varsity team as well as a varsity team, so that even if he’s on the JV team, he’ll still have a chance to make the varsity squad.

CHS head baseball coach David Jordan was pleased with his star player’s choice.

“It’s all on Broc,” Jordan said. “I just kind of guided him a little bit. He’s got great baseball intelligence and I think that his biggest quality is that he loves to compete. His level of competition is off the charts. It’s much greater than most high school players.

“I love it that he’s going there. I know Coach (Steven) Adams, we go a long way back. When you look at his numbers, they are only getting better.”
