Linzer wins 5A hurdles title

BATON ROUGE — New Iberia Senior High hurdler Shatoya Linzer finished up her prep career Saturday with a bit of gold as the Lady Jacket senior ran a 14.95 second 100 meter hurdles race and won her signature event at the Allstare Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Class 5A State Outdoor Track Meet held at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU.
Linzer scored the only points for the Lady Jackets Saturday as NISH finished with 10 points in the meet, which was won by Zachary with 73 points. NISH finished in 15th place tied with John Curtis and Sulphur.
Linzer wasn’t the only Teche Area athlete to win or end up on the podium Saturday as Classes 3A, 4A and 5A competed at the state meet.
Erath’s Ethan Suire also won gold with his first place finish in the 1600 meter run (4:33.68).
Finishing on the podium in the state meet was Westgate’s Kayshon Boutte, who finished second in the Class 4A boys 200 meters and third in the 400 meters while teammate Kolyn Saltzman finished third in the Class 4A boys 1600 meters and the 3200 meters.
St. Martinville’s Jordan Landry took third in the Class 4A girls high jump and triple jump and finished fifth in the long jump.
Erath’s Cameron Carpenter finished third in the Class 3A boys 3200 meters while teammate Jax Harrington just missed a podium finish with fourth place in the shot put.
EHS’ Troynae Walker finished third in the Class 3A girls 100 meter hurdles and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles.
NISH’s Londyn Roberts finished fifth in the 800 meters and the 4×400 relay team of Roberts, Joshua Mason, Devin Jeanlouis and Jaydon Hall also finished in fifth place.
In team scoring, NISH boys finished 30th with four points as Zachary won the Class 5A boys title with 64 points; St. Martinville’s girls finished tied with Cabrini for 16th in Class 4A with 14 points. Karr won the Girls 4A title with 60 points.
Westgate boys finished in the Class 4A meet with 26 points and a seventh place finish as District 4-4A rival Carencro won the boys 4A title with 84 points.
Erath scored 34 points in the Boys’ Class 3A meet and finished in fourth place as West Feliciana won the meet with 89 points and Erath’s girls scored eight points and tied for 21st place with Eunice High as Sacred Heart of New Orleans won the Girls Class 3A title with 90 points.
