A man is in critical condition after shooting himself with a handgun Monday morning in New Iberia

City Park, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office. 

IPSO spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn said deputies went to the park in regards to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was located near the dog park and Devil’s Pond in City Park, where Raborn said he shot himself in the head with a handgun. 

The unidentified male was taken to a Lafayette hospital, where Raborn said the man remains in critical condition.
