A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mr. Maclyn Paul “Mac Paul” Bastian, 69, at 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at St. Edward Roman Catholic Church. Fr. Thomas Vu will be the Celebrant.
He will await the resurrection in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery in New Iberia (Belle Place).
Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9 a.m.
Maclyn a lifelong resident of New Iberia, passed at 6:06 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2018, at his residence. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and was a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church. He received his diploma in 1967 at Jonas Henderson High School and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge with an interest in political science. In addition to politics, Maclyn had an interest in entrepreneurship. His interest, love and dedication to his family led him to assist with the family business, The Harlem Grill. Maclyn enjoyed walking, be it on the track in the West End Park or in the neighborhood. During his years of employment, he worked as offshore technician and for Wilson’s Janitorial Service.
Mac Paul, as he was known as in the community leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Jacquelyn Schexnayder Bastian of New Iberia; two daughters, Kaye Bastian of Houston, Lakayla N. Bastian of New Iberia and Kiosha Celestine of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Kyree Lewis and Justin Bourgeois of Houston,; one godchild, Aaliyah Jackson of Lafayette; three maternal aunts, Pecola J. Volter, Gertrude J. Landry, both of New Iberia and Melva J. Barabin of Houston; one sister-in-law Diane Lasalle of New Iberia; one nephew Todd Lasalle Sr. of New Iberia; four great-nieces, one great-nephew, two great-great-nieces and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Paul Bastian and Ruby “T-Ruby” LaSalle; one brother Ernest “Bo Peep” Lasalle; paternal grandparents, Leonce Bastian and Celina Bourda Bastian; maternal grandparents, Mac Jefferson and Zilma Mitchell Jefferson and two maternal uncles, Lawrence Jefferson and Morris Jefferson.
Active Pallbearers are Gregory Broussard, Larry Collins, Wesley Hypolite, Morris James, Theron Miller and Edmond “Bubba” Stokes.
